Bases for the armed services are scattered across Australia - only a small minority are based in the major metropolitan areas. Further, they were built at a time where the installation of communications networks in the accommodation complexes was not considered to be necessary. Cirrus has obtained a license from the Department of Finance to operate a private communications network and now does so on several bases.

The managers of the bases today recognise that the level of services that they can provide has an impact on their ability to hire and retain staff - and that in some instances, particularly when students are on base for an extended period, it may be appropriate for them to have access to the Internet.

Cirrus has deployed WiFi networks in key residential areas of a number of bases in regional Australia. It has leveraged its regional wireless networks to offer these services and offers Internet plans that meet the needs of short term all the way through to long term residents. Residents can sign-up online and use the service in their rooms or in the approved common areas of the base.
